Driving the economy: Hall of Fame expected to boost small businesses
By Bea Quirk CHARLOTTE — In an economic impact study by UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton, it was estimated that the NASCAR Hall of Fame and its 800,000 annual visitors will add about $60 million to the regional economy each year. The area’s hospitality industry — especially its many small business owners — are smiling broadly in anticipation that some of those dollars will go to their companies once the hall officially opens May 11. “It would be difficult to quantify what percentage of that would go to small businesses, but is certainly a significant figure,” said Winston Kelley, the hall’s executive director.
