No ads, no Web site — just 30 years of word-of-mouth success (access required)

By Austin Light CHARLOTTE — Gary Hixson, co-owner of Hixson Design, a local graphic design agency, has a very broad body of work. From Harris Teeter interiors and prototype restaurants, to airport signage and appealing business cards, he’s done it all, and he hasn’t looked for any of it. Since starting his business more than 30 years ago — before graphic design was a computer-based profession — he’s never solicited a single client, and yet the work keeps pouring in. He attributes some of it to the quality of his work and his client relations and design philosophy, but most of it he credits to God, because as he said, “There must be something that makes this work.”

  1. Thats amazing he did so well with his business when he didn’t market it to anyone. He must have done really good work to make the “word of mouth” get around so much.
