Five Ventures starts application, mentoring process
By Austin Light CHARLOTTE — Applications for the 2010 Five Ventures competition at the University of North Carolina’s Charlotte Research Institute are now available for entrepreneurs at FiveVentures.com. The deadline for applications is Feb. 16, 2010, and there’s good reason to wait until then to turn everything in. CRI Associate Director Barry Burks said the period between the applications becoming available and their due date in early February is the most important time for applicants. “The real benefit of the program is not what goes on in that one day in April” when winners are announced, Burks said. “Once we get applications in hand, we start providing mentoring and help for those involved.” That help includes a business lecture series covering a wide variety of topics, from starting a business to branding and marketing. The series runs from Jan. 19 to Feb. 11 so applicants can take advantage of the advice presented and adjust their applications accordingly, Burks said.
